Turning your home into a Smart Home can help your home stand out from the other homes for sale and be memorable to those that tour. It's not just the Millennials and Gen Ys desiring a home with smart home technology that keeps them secure and connected, but even the Baby Boomers look for more convenience in their lives and they know how to use it! Remember, that is the generation that invented the computer that has evolved to what we have today!
Connecting devices to your smart phone can save energy, money, and time. There are four categories of smart devices:
Utilities - Thermostat, light bulbs, sprinkler, electrical outlet, ceiling fan, stove, washer and dryer, powered window shades, etc.
Safety - Wireless key entry, doorbell, garage door, outdoor lighting, etc.
Security - Burglar alarm, smoke alarm, carbon monoxide detector, or any sensor that triggers a call for emergency assistance.
Audio / Visual - Personal assistant such as Alexa or Siri, TVs, music, etc.
You can go to the big box home improvement stores to find a plethora of Smart Home technology compatible devices for way less than 5 years ago. Lowe's and Home Depot are a great source for devices that are plug and play, so easy to install. If you are already invested in Amazon's Alexa series, they too have many smart home devices compatible with Alexa. My personal favorite is the garage door opener.
With today’s technology available to consumers, it can be pretty easy and inexpensive to get started. Setting your home up with Smart Home devices can be a great marketing tool, and make your home memorable, without too much out of pocket.
